We are thinking about adding an in-ground pool What do we need to consider?

Determine your primary reason for having a pool. As your designer / builder we can custom design a pool that fits your lifestyle; “family fun, fitness, entertaining, relaxation, reflection, or a personal intimate space for you and a loved one. Many elements are available to create individuality.

What type of landscaping is best around a pool?

I am asked this question often. Living in a sub-tropical region, there are many different design theories you can choose to enhance your pool. One of your decisions will be on a theme, that will compliment the house and existing inventory. Areas of full sun, partial or full shade will have a factor in the plant choices and positioning. Deciding on items of interest as one of, or several focal points, such as a fountain, birdbath, waterfall, fire feature, decorative fencing, palm trees, or elaborate flowerbeds are just few thoughts. In the area surrounding your pool it is recommended an inventory of low-maintenance landscape, avoiding deciduous (non-evergreen) trees and shrubbery, that could create a problem with pool maintenance and upkeep. In my experience I have found plants such as bougainvillea, hibiscus, periwinkles and lantana doing well in full sun areas, while adding color to the landscape. The easiest answer is a landscape that is the easiest to maintain while providing the most interest and impact that compliments the architecture and design philosophy of your new outdoor space.

What is Marbella Stone?

Designed by Nature to be the perfect pool deck and pool coping, this elegant stone has the remarkable ability to stay cool underfoot even in direct sunlight. Quarried from sites once covered by ocean waters teeming with marine life, architects and designers find Marbella perfect for a multitude of interior and exterior applications...floors, walls stair treads and balustrades to name a few. Imbedded with ancient coral and shells, Marbella's sandy beige coloration is fairly uniform in shading. Slight color variations add to it's natural beauty and character. Marbella is available in a variety of finishes, ask us when you call for a consultation.

What are the advantages of a salt water pool versus a chlorine pool?

No more mixing, measuring and messing around with liquid or tablet chlorine again. Now you can automatically turn ordinary salt into a self-regenerating supply of pure chlorine for both pool and spa water that's clean, clear and luxuriously soft. Electronic chlorination has become the simple, safe and affordable alternative to using chemically-produced chlorine to sanitize pools and spas. Unlike traditional chlorine treatments that require a regular routine of monitoring and replacing chlorine, electronic chlorination produces chlorine from common table salt. The key is a specially designed converter connected to the control unit. As water passes through the cell, a safe electrical charge turns the salt into fresh sanitizing chlorine which is then dispensed evenly throughout the pool. Just a teaspoon of salt per gallon is all it takes. Installation is quick, easy and suitable for any new or existing pool. No chlorine odor, low operating costs, pays for itself, and is virtually maintenance free—electronic chlorination is the ideal alternative to traditional factory produced chlorine for soft, silky-smooth water.

I suffered a back injury some time ago and am curious just how beneficial a spa would be?

The soothing and therapeutic effects of heat and massage to assist in relieving muscle tension and promoting mental relaxation are well documented by therapists. Doctors often prescribe whirlpool treatments for various forms of ache’s, sprains and strains If hydrotherapy is provided away from home, by the time the you get back into your car and battle the traffic to get home any benefit of the treatment you have paid for has vanished. Ideally, a soak in your own spa before bedtime will not only make you feel better all night, it also promotes sound and restful sleep. The redeeming features of a soothing and relaxing spa are many and varied.

Does a pool require a lot of maintenance?

We design your pool to be as maintenance free as possible. Your new pool should only require 20 minutes a week to maintain. A salt water pool will significantly reduce your maintenance and your annual costs. Your pool will stay attractive during the off-season with a minimum of attention. There is no need to winterize your pool each year, in fact you can reduce the running time of your equipment to 4 to 6 hours a day.

How can I enhance the appearance of my pool area at night?

Creative landscape lighting is another feature to highlight and accent your outdoor experience in the evening. Many homeowners like to ease the tensions of the day by relaxing outdoors after the evening meal. A creatively designed lighting system will dramatically accent landscaping and artistic features of your pool area. Dramatic effects can be achieved that are visible from indoors as well as out. You can create a climate that extends your living area rather than separating it. Lighting options are more flexible than ever. Adjusting the ambiance to suit your mood; from entertaining to romance gives you greater flexibility of feel.

Does my pool heater need any special care?

Absolutely! Pool owners often overlook routine heater and filter maintenance. Many people have their furnace checked each year. Your pool heater needs that check-up too. They operate in a much more hostile environment than your furnace. Wind, rain, sun and sometimes uninvited guests take up their residence in your heater. It is vitally important to insure that it is operating safely and efficiently. Typically, a pool heater produces three to five times as much heat as the average home heating furnace. And by having an annual inspection performed by a qualified technician, your unit will last longer. A good inspection would include inspecting and cleaning the combustion section, checking for proper venting and clearances, inspecting all wiring and safety devices for proper operation, and adjusting gas pressure to specifications. Having this done by a professional could save you from an exciting and possibly dangerous start to your pool-heating season.
